There was a free one-hour concert presented by a local classical music radio station namely 92.9 ABC Classic FM at Eugene Goossens Recital Hall, ABC Centre Harris St.
The performers were Greenway Quartet of Sydney Conservatorium of Music formed in 2002 (or 01?) by four Conservatorium students as part of their ensemble studies. These students are now continuing master degrees at the same institution. The quartet has made a debut tour to China and been finalist in major competitions in Asia Pacific recently.
In remembrance of SHOSTAKOVICH's 100th anniversary of his death, the quartet played his String Quartet No7 in F#minor Op108 and BEETHOVEN String Quartet No8 in Eminor Op59. The music was beautiful and it's a full house in the recital. The first set lasted for 12 minutes - pretty short for a quartet piece - but it has been a very interesting journey made by the composer.
There has been a long queue at the recital door as i arrived at 2.20pm. It's amazing to see a great number of elderly people turning up very early and not minding standing in the queue for quite some time.
